Promotion recognizes a rising star who has spent her career backing researchers and engineers whose work on AI infrastructure and deep tech will determine where durable value is created.

500 Global, one of the world's most active venture capital firms, today promoted Iris Sun to Partner on the firm's Global Investment Team.

Iris brings a rare combination of operator, investor, and dealmaker experience spanning the full lifecycle of technology companies — from zero-to-one product development to M&A execution at scale. She began her career at Citigroup before joining Alibaba, where she led e-commerce products serving over 30 million daily active users, building a technically grounded understanding of platform economics and AI at global scale. She subsequently joined TSVC, where she rose to Principal leading the firm's data economy investments, backing Exa, d-Matrix, Kubit, Angle Health, and Ridge Security. As a founding member of Thrasio's M&A team, she helped build the acquisition infrastructure for the largest Amazon brand aggregator globally, sharpening her ability to assess technology businesses for scalability, defensibility, and exit readiness.

This experience has been additive as 500 Global has built its AI portfolio around an early conviction: the researchers and engineers solving the hardest infrastructure problems — at the model, compute, and delivery layers — will determine who captures value as AI scales. That thesis runs through the firm's co-lead of inference platform DeepInfra's $107 million Series B; its investment in frontier labs humans&, Elorian AI, Sakana AI, and Physion Labs whose founding teams span OpenAI, Google DeepMind & Brain, Anthropic, xAI, and Meta; and backing of PlayAI, a generative voice platform acquired by Meta.  Iris' promotion to Partner reflects both the depth of that work and the relationships she has cultivated at its frontier, across the researchers, engineers, and builders who are defining where AI goes next.

“Venture capital has undergone a massive structural transformation. What was once a cottage industry concentrated on Sand Hill Road has become one of the most consequential allocators of human ambition” said Christine Tsai, CEO and Founding Partner of 500 Global. “At the heart of that transformation is AI - a fundamental reimagining of technical limits and human capability at every layer of the global economy. Yet what has remained the constant in venture is profoundly human: building conviction in incredible founders, earning their trust, and partnering with them before it's obvious. Iris operates at exactly that frontier. She has cultivated deep relationships with the researchers and builders shaping the future of AI and has brought that access and judgment to bear on 500’s AI portfolio. As 500 Global embarks on our 16th year, people remain at the heart of our mission. Great cultures compound through every person who joins them. Iris is a testament to that.”

"History was never made by certainty. It was made by those who acted on the 0.01%" said Iris Sun, Partner at 500 Global. "Electrons are abundant. Atoms are manufacturable. Intelligence per FLOP compounds every year. What doesn't compound automatically is human agency — the audacity of founders, engineers, and researchers who choose to act at a civilizational inflection point. That's what I hope to capture, and to build on — with human DNA irreducibly at the foundation.”

Iris joins 500 Global's 25+ Partners across 20+ countries, more than half of which are women — placing the firm among fewer than 5% of venture firms across the industry with a majority-women partnership.  With 350+ investments across AI — including Canva, Talkdesk, and Fin (formerly Intercom)— the firm's AI portfolio counts 10+ companies valued above $1 billion and 34 above $100 million.  That combination of global reach, diverse perspective, and technical depth informs a sourcing and conviction advantage that is increasingly decisive as AI functions less as a sector and more as the foundational platform through which the next generation of high-value, system-critical companies will be built.
